NFL Week 1 Picks
By AB
It has been a long 6 months, but NFL football is FINALLY BACK! It's been a very packed offseason. Covid 19 arrived, and although the NFL got lucky it had finished all its games, the offseason was different. For starters we had the first ever virtual draft, which was actually pretty cool. We also got a LOAD of contract that absolutely shattered markets, with Patrick Mahomes, George Kittle, Joey Bosa for starters setting records for contracts at their position.
There was doubt at one point that the season might not happen, but the NFL teams have so far handled this remarkably well, and there have been next to none positive cases of Covid 19. So without further ado, here are my picks for Week 1 of the NFL season!
Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs (8:20 p.m. EST on Thursday Night Football)
The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Superbowl Champs. They had an incredible postseason run, which was capped of with a Superbowl win. They bring back almost every single one of their starters, and are the title favorites to repeat this season.
The Texans played the Chiefs in the AFC divisional round, and had a 24-0 lead on the Chiefs, which was erased within 5 minutes. For the rest of the game they were outscored 51-7, and in Free Agency pulled the stunner of the offseason, when they traded Deandre Hopkins away.
The Chiefs should quite comfortably win this game and it probably won’t be that close by the 4th quarter.
Chiefs win (34-20)
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills (1:00 EST)
The Bills are coming of a 10-6 season where they lost in the Wild card round. They pulled of a another stunning trade where they got Stefon Diggs providing another target for young QB Josh Allen, and the Bills are looking to contend for the AFC east title.
The Jets meanwhile made a lot of small under-the-radar moves where they filled up key depth holes. Their biggest signing was Breshad Perriman, who is a speedy WR, who should help Sam Darnold. They traded star safety Jamal Adams to Seattle, which was a massive move, and this also weakens their defense.
The Jets are a decent team, but the bills are a playoff team that can have realistic SB expectations very soon. I expect the Bills to win, but for it to be very close.
Bills win (20-17)
Seattle Seahawks vs Atlanta Falcons (1:00 EST)
The Seattle Seahawks are coming of a season where they lost in the divisional round to the Green Bay Packers and since then have lost Clowney (to the Titans) and have gained Jamal Adams (from the Jets), and have signed a lot of depth in the trenches. They also added age old veteran TE, in Greg Olsen and are looking like SB contenders.
Meanwhile the Falcons, made waves when they traded for former stud RB Todd Gurley, and trade for Hayden Hurst. However they also lost stud TE Austin Hooper, and that loss is going to hurt them a lot, he provided a safe target for Matt Ryan.
The Seahawks should win this game easily, they are the better team, and have the better QB
Seahawks win (34-31)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orlean Saints (4:25 EST)
The Buccaneers are coming of a monster offseason where they signed Tom Brady, and Rob Gronkowski. Then they added Leanard Fournette on top of that which gives them an explosive offense. Bucs are dangerous.
The Saints this offseason didn’t make any huge additions. Instead they signed veteran Emmanuel Sanders, to be a No 2 Receiver behind Michael Thomas. They maintained a lot of continuity, which should give them a advantage over the Bucs, who have a new QB, TE, and RB.
Saints should win this comfortably.
Saints win(30-20)
